Architectural Metalwork
Cellar Hatch
Designer: Jaime Rojo
Client: Smolin Res.
A cellar hatch was needed for the basement where there was a need for light and air. The hatch has a blackened steel frame with 1" laminated acid etched glass . This let some light in from outside when closed. The hatch being so heavy a gas shock was added to help with lifting and lowering. A metal pull stick is used open and is notched at different heights to let air in as needed. Your can walk on the outside glass as it is rated for such.
